How do I change my Aarcade custom domain name?

Filed in Domain

Please note that Aarcade custom domain and email services are only available with an Aarcade Domain & Email Plan.

Domain names and their associated services are not separable and can not be combined. In other words, you can not simply change the name of the domain assigned to your shop, site and/or email accounts without setting up a completely new set of services for that domain name.

To obtain a new Aarcade managed domain name – even if it is to replace an existing domain name – you must purchase a new Domain & Email service. Once you have done so, you can proceed with one of the following options.

Option 1: Keeping Your Existing Domain Service

With this option you get to keep the current email accounts and services tied to your old custom domain name.

You can not assign two domain names to your Big Cartel shop. However, you can assign your new domain name to your shop and have the old domain name redirect automatically to the new domain or to somewhere else (e.g. a Tumblr blog). Just let us know your preference when we set up your new custom domain.

You can of course still cancel your old or new domain service any time in the future as explained in the article How do I cancel my Aarcade subscription?

Option 2: Deleting Your Existing Domain Service

With this option you will lose all of your current email accounts, Google App content (docs, calendars, etc.) and services tied to your old custom domain name. So you should make sure that you back up any email messages and other content you want to keep before proceeding.

If your old domain services includes registration of the domain name, you can contact us to arrange transfer of the domain to an alternate registrar. If you chose not to do this, then your old domain name will be released once your service is cancelled, i.e. you will no longer own it and will most likely not have the option to acquire it again in the future.

Once your new domain name services have been set up, you can cancel your old domain name services as explained in the article How do I cancel my Aarcade subscription?
