How do I fix a failed subscription charge?

Filed in My Aarcade Subscription

Check Your PayPal Account Status

Your subscription may have failed due to a general issue with your PayPal account status. Log in to your PayPal account to confirm that there are no active errors.

If an error message is presented to you after log in and / or PayPal has e-mailed you a message regarding an issue with your PayPal account; you should follow the instructions provided by PayPal to address the error.

  • Log in to your PayPal account.
  • Click Profile at the top of the page. Then click Profile and settings in the dropdown if available.
  • Click My Preapproved Payments in the Financial Information column or click Money, then update in the My Preapproved Payments section.

  • Check Subscription Funding Source is set correctly and that no errors are presented. We recommend this value is set to a verified credit/debit card.
  • If you change your Subscription Funding Source, click Update Information at the bottom of the page.

Add Funds To Your PayPal Account

Having sufficient funds available in your own PayPal account will ensure that future subscription payment attempts will not fail. If you need to add funds to your own PayPal account as quickly as possible – to avoid account cancellation – you can do so with your credit card via our Pay Anyone tool.

Alternatively you can use purchase a MoneyPak where available.

You can also add funds from your available funding sources by clicking the Add money menu item in your PayPal admin area, but be aware that this may take 3 or more days.

Fixing your subscription with cancellation and reactivation

It is not uncommon that the PayPal system will still fail subscription payments, even after the above steps have been applied. It is unclear why this happens, and it has been a longstanding issue with the PayPal subscription system. In this case, the best solution to fixing your subscription payment is to either cancel your subscription directly – see How do I cancel my Aarcade subscription? – or wait to see if our payment reattempts fail (2 reattempts over 8 days), which will then lead to an automatic cancellation.

It is important to note that your services will not be immediately deactivated when your subscription is cancelled. This gives you time to reactivate your subscription without affecting your domain and/or web site. Because of this, subscription cancellation is the most sure way of fixing / changing your subscription payment details.

When your subscription is cancelled, you will get an email from Aarcade explaining that your related services will be deactivated within the next 8 days. This notice will include a link for reactivating your subscription. After ensuring that all of your PayPal payment methods are up to date – see How do I update my payment details? – click the subscription reactivation link and start your subscription again. Note that you have the option to use a different PayPal account and/or credit card when reactivating your subscription.

Contact PayPal Support

If you continue to have difficulties after following the above steps, there may be an issue with your account. Please contact PayPal support so they can review your account set up directly.
